Unisys LZW patent expirers

The patent that Unisys holds on the LZW compression algorithm expired in UK, Germany, France and Italy yesterday. Tomorrow it will expire in Japan. That means that starting tomorrow GIF, along with many other formats such as TIFF and PDF, will be out of Unisys’s reach.
